Capt. Lee Sykes
Capt Lee Sykes is current President / Owner / Operator of the company and has been in the towing and marine salvage business since 2005.
Prior to joining TowBoatUS as a Tow Captain in 2006, Capt Sykes was running his own fishing charter boat. An avid fisherman himself Capt Sykes has always enjoyed being on the water. Helping boaters that need assistance just seemed like an easy extension of his experience and background on the waters of the Crystal Coast.
In January of 2010, 2011, and 2014 Captain Sykes was awarded the BoatUS Annual Woody Pollack Memorial Certificate at the Annual BoatUS Conference. The award is given to TowBoatUS Captains who demonstrate actions above and beyond the call of duty during a heroic rescue or life saving case. Capt Sykes is never far from a VHF radio and with his fleet of boats within yards of the office, he can meet most boaters emergency rescue needs.
Capt Sykes is married to Kristen Smith and have one daughter - Charli. What a beautiful crew Lee has!

Capt Sykes is originally from Mt Olive, NC and has been residing on the Crystal Coast since 2003. He spends his off time "perfecting" his fishing skills. Capt Sykes also is available for speaking engagements on such topics as inland and off-shore fishing, as well as trends in the towing and salvage business.

Captain Joe Tunstall
Captain Joe is a native of Atlantic Beach, NC, where he spent his youth as an avid outdoorsman and grew up a waterman. He began commercial fishing offshore with his father on their 28' Bertram, 20' Sportcraft and later a 25' Hydra Sport from the time he was 3 months old, spending his youth in the offshore and inland waters of Carteret, Craven, Beaufort, Hyde, and Pamlico Counties.
Captain Joe attended West Carteret High School. At 17 he began taking criminal justice classes at Carteret Community College, while landscaping and working at Triple S Pier where he became an avid pier fisherman and managed the pier house. He then worked for the State Department of Corrections for over two years before starting his first company doing lawn maintenance and landscaping. He also later started another business on Ocracoke Island doing educational horse rides in the surf.
In 2006 Captain Joe returned to Carteret County to reclaim his roots and heritage and began work on the water again. Captain Joe has worked for Duke University Marine Lab in Beaufort, NC for three years on the Susan Hudson a 57 foot 37 gross ton research vessel, as well as their two 24 foot Carolina Skiffs, which has taken him all over Eastern N.C. by water. He also mated on several charter and private vessels including the Kokomo, James Joyce II, and the Trinity, including 4 years on the 97 gross ton head-boat the Continental Shelf. Captain Joe also operated his own yacht maintenance and detail service where he honed his networking ties in Coastal Carolina.
Captain Joe has a 100 ton masters license, HAZMAT operations, awareness and terrorism certification, and is an active firefighter / EMT. He also holds several state certifications and successfully commanded several incidents in the surrounding downeast communities of the Marshallberg area where he resides and is an active participant in the local fire departments and surrounding communities.
Captain Joe strives to be the best at his selected field and as a professional waterman, takes pride in his knowledge and customer service.

Captain Bryan Goodwin
TowBoatUS Beaufort / Swansboro
Capt Bryan Goodwin is an eighth generation waterman and native of the Southern Outerbanks (or SOBX). Captain Bryan holds a communication degree from the University of NC/Chapel Hill, 100 ton Masters Captains License through the USCG with towing endorsement, and several other safety and Search and Rescue Certifications.
Capt Bryan also spends time working as a Saltwater Fishing guide and Independent Television Producer. He is a certified lifeguard and open water diver.
Capt Bryan enjoys working on the waters of our Carolina coast and has a passion for helping others. Look for our Capt Bryan on the waters of Hawkers Island, Beaufort, Morehead City and Swansboro. Capt Bryan also handles cases off-shore and waters surrounding the Cape Lookout Lighthouse.
Captain Andrew Joyce
TowBoatUS Swansboro / Beaufort
Andrew Joyce was born in Greensboro, NC to a family with a history of fishing the Outer Banks. He grew up surf fishing the coast from Ocracoke to Oak Island with his dad and got into boat fishing at age 17 when his family purchased a 20’ center console. After high school he moved to Oak Island to begin work at Fort Caswell and to attend Cape Fear Community College. He studied Marine Technology, and took night classes to gain additional knowledge in coastal and celestial navigation, as well as to get his Captain’s Licenses. While at Cape Fear, Andrew received the Ava Hobbs Riverfest Scholarship, graduated top of his class, and received perfect examination scores on the USCG test for the OUPV Captain’s License. Andrew is an Open Water Scuba Diver, has volunteered with Oyster Shell Recycling, and currently holds an OUPV a 500 ton Near Coastal Master's License and a 1600 ton Inland Master's License.
TowBoatUS Swansboro / Beaufort
Capt Kevin Fuller started with TowBoatUS Beaufort in 2013 and works part-time with us in the areas of Swansboro and Beaufort. Along with Capt Fuller's TowBoatUS responsibilities he is also a paid fire fighter/EMT-I/ Lieutenant with MCFD. Additional capabilities include Hazmat tech, Fire Inspector and, Marine Shipboard Fire fighter certified for well over 20 yrs. Capt Fuller also served with the US Navy as a Damage control Firefighter on board an aircraft carrier for 6 years. Kevin made his home in Morehead City's Crystal Coast after his Naval career. He is married to Michelle Fuller and has 3 beautiful kids; sons Sonny and Stephen, and his teenage daughter MacKenzie. When he does have any spare time he enjoys spending time with his family on and around the water.
Look for Captain Kevin Fuller on the Swansboro and Beaufort waterfronts and all along our beautiful Atlantic Intercoastal Waterways.
Captain Crockett Henderson
Captain Crockett Henderson has been around boats and the sportfishing industry all his life. When he’s not helping stranded boaters for TowBoatUS, chances are he’s at a tournament fishing on his SeaVee 390Z, Liquid Fire. Or, he may be at his favorite cruising destination, Ocracoke, or out fishing with friends. At a young age he worked as an angler and his team’s videographer. Crockett works for us part-time in the Morehead City and Swansboro areas.
Captain Mark Chambers
Capt Mark Chambers is from Morehead City, NC and knows the local waters well and has been on them professionally and personally for most of his life.
Capt Mark started out on the local waters when was 5 years old. Mark has worked on Fishing Charter boats since he was 14 and has worked in most capacities from Mate to Captain. He started work as a Part-Time on-call Captain for us during the slower (for him) winter months.
You may not see a lot of Capt Mark on a TowBoat this summer as he is fairly well booked for the season - but he will be around, towing our members whenever he can. In Mark's words, "I'm happy as a clam when I am on the water!"
NC Lakes Division
Brian Lischin is a retired police K-9 narcotics officer with extensive search and rescue training. Brian has spent his lifetime on and around the water and currently holds a 50-ton near Coastal USCG license with towing endorsement. When Brian is not towing on the NC Lakes he is likely spending time UNDER water! Brian serves part-time as a charter boat Captain that specializes in scuba charters and is a certified open water scuba diver.
NC Lakes Division
Captain Nicholas Holeman joined Tow Boat in 2017 as a Captain on Falls Lake. Nicholas loves spending time on the water or on frozen water as a Hockey goalie. Nicholas holds a USCG 6 pack Captains License with Towing Endorsement. Nicholas is a graduate of Millbrook High School and is currently a full-time student at Campbell University in Buies Creek, NC studying Mechanical Engineering. Nicholas grew up boating on Falls Lake. He spends the majority of his time on the local lakes to Raleigh, Falls, Jordan, Gaston, Kerr, and Sharon Harris Lakes where he will be serving as a captain for Tow Boat US.
Captain Keith Martin
NC Lakes - Jordan Lake
Captain Keith Martin is one of our newest TowBoatUS Captains with the NC Lakes division. Keith was employed in the IT field for over 28 years and has lived on a private lake in Harnett County N.C. all his life. His hobbies are hunting, fishing, and playing with his four grandchildren. Captain Keith looks forward to helping the boaters on the inland lakes of N.C. and will mainly be see patrolling the waters of Jordan Lake.
Captain Jeff Reid
NC Lakes Division
Jeff Reid is a retired fire service battalion Chief with an extensive background in HAZMAT. Jeff has held his USCG Captains License for over 30 years. Prior to working for TowBoatUS on the NC Lakes he worked in Yacht Delivery and on charter boats. Jeff also enjoys and participates in Tournament fishing and previously served as Captain of a small sport fishing boat. Jeff is currently fishing on the Lowrance / Simrad Pro Staff Team that fishes all along the Inland and Coastal waters of the Eastern US.
Smith Mt Lake - VA
Neil is a part-time, on-call TowBoatUS Captain and salvage diver at Smith Mountain Lake. Neil retired from the US Army as a Chief Warrant Officer, retired from the corporate world as a computer network engineer and cyber security professional and now volunteers as a firefighter and boat captain for the Smith Mountain Lake Marine Volunteer Fire Rescue. Neil has always had a special relationship with the oceans and lakes of the world. As a life-long boater and scuba diver, Neil has enjoyed the waters of the East Coast, West Coast, Caribbean and South Pacific. It should come as no surprise that his astrological sign is Aquarius.
Captain Bruce Jones
Smith Mountain Lake
Bruce grew up sailing on the Chesapeake Bay out of Annapolis MD, and is a 1983 graduate of Va Tech with a BS in Industrial Forestry. Since 1996 he has held a 25 Ton Masters Inland License including Auxiliary Sail and OUPV Near Coastal with a Assistance Towing endorsement. He is also a PADI certified Divemaster. Bruce has worked as a delivery captain on the east coast and lives in Roanoke Virginia. He stays busy as a Scoutmaster for Troop 50 in Roanoke and is helping keep the VISA sailing club running on Smith Mountain Lake. Bruce also owns a Catalina 30 that he uses as his "Smith Mountain Lake Headquaters Office" when working weekends on the lake. When he is not towing for TowBoatUS Smith Mt Lake, he operates a home remodeling company specializing in kitchen remodeling.
