Andrew Joyce was born in Greensboro, NC to a family with a history of fishing the Outer Banks. He grew up surf fishing the coast from Ocracoke to Oak Island with his dad and got into boat fishing at age 17 when his family purchased a 20’ center console. After high school he moved to Oak Island to begin work at Fort Caswell and to attend Cape Fear Community College. He studied Marine Technology, and took night classes to gain additional knowledge in coastal and celestial navigation, as well as to get his Captain’s Licenses. While at Cape Fear, Andrew received the Ava Hobbs Riverfest Scholarship, graduated top of his class, and received perfect examination scores on the USCG test for the OUPV Captain’s License. Andrew is an Open Water Scuba Diver, has volunteered with Oyster Shell Recycling, and currently holds an OUPV and 50 ton Master’s License.
Captain Andrew is now working part-time for TowBoatUS Beaufort and Swansboro. He now works full time for the NC Ferry Service. Never know where you might see him!
